Meeting Overview
You are more than welcome to attend any meeting at your convenience, without any obligation.  On attendance, all guests receive a Welcome to Toastmasters kit which provides information about the Toastmasters organisation as a whole, a copy of the Toastmasters monthly magazine, as well as information relating to our club.  Visiting our club will also give you the opportunity to meet the four founding members of the club who come from wide and varied backgrounds.   At our first demonstration meeting we will also have a number of other Toastmasters from around Sydney to help us in running our first meeting.  We are a very friendly and encouraging group of people, all with the same objectives in mind - to gain self-confidence while overcoming the fear of public speaking.

The first part of our meetings is where we hold a "table topics" session.  This is an impromptu speaking part of the evening where members and guests are invited to speak.  A member is given a topic at random and they have to develop a structured response, the time limit is 60 seconds.  An example of a table topic might be "Has personal income tax levels lowered since the introduction of the GST?" or "Describe your perfect holiday".  You can decide if you would like to participate in table topics when you are at the meeting. All guests are encouraged to have go and a couple of members always go first so you understand what is involved.  Guests may decline participation if they would prefer to watch.  I have included a document to tell you more about table topics.

The 2nd half of the program is devoted to prepared speeches.  These are speeches that are prepared using the educational workbooks that have been developed and published by Toastmasters International (the workbooks are included in your new membership kit, should you choose to join).  Each project in the workbook has an objective (eg. develop your body language in a speech) and a time limit.  The speeches are given on any topic that the speaker has chosen.  An experienced Toastmaster evaluates each speech that is presented in a club meeting.  The evaluator will be able to point out the good speaking skills that a speaker is already using in their presentations.  The evaluator will also give the speaker a suggestion on where they can improve their presentation or speech development.   To find out what the exactly meeting entails, it is best that you experience the meeting first hand.
